As of December 2025, the regulatory landscape for long-term care emphasizes resident-centered care as a mandatory outcome, placing the Activity Director at the center of facility compliance. This presentation explores the multifaceted responsibilities of the Activity Director under Federal F-Tags (primarily F679 and F680) and corresponding State-specific licensure rules.
Participants will examine how the Activity Director is legally responsible for the "development, implementation, supervision, and ongoing evaluation" of a comprehensive activity program. The session will detail the Director's role in the Minimum Data Set (MDS) assessment process, individualized care planning, and the management of departmental personnel to ensure that every resident receives activities tailored to their "physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being". Finally, we will cover how to prepare for and navigate the survey process, including managing "absolute" tags like F680, where a lack of qualified leadership can lead to automatic citations.
